The Scout Youth Foundation (SYF) is seeking to appoint new voluntary Trustees to join its Board.

This is an opportunity to contribute your skills, judgement, and values to support the long term sustainability of Scouting in Aotearoa, and ensure young people can access life changing opportunities, regardless of financial circumstances.

About The Scout Youth Foundation

The Scout Youth Foundation exists to support Scouts Aotearoa by overseeing invested funds and distributing grants that enable participation, growth, and equity across the movement.

The Role

As a Trustee, you will contribute to the governance and oversight of the Foundation while actively contributing to the growth and development of its reach.
We are particularly interested in individuals who can bring strength in one or more of the following areas:

  • Investment and financial literacy – providing informed oversight of investments managed by an external fund manager
  • Fundraising and supporter stewardship – helping cultivate and strengthen relationships especially in the scouting and alumni communities
  • Equity and hardship funding – contributing sound judgement, empathy, and fairness to decisions that support access and inclusion

While this is a governance role, Trustees are actively involved in the day to day operation of the trusts.

What We’re Looking For

We welcome applications from people who bring:

  • Experience or strong capability in governance, finance, investment, business, or philanthropy
  • The ability to ask good questions and exercise sound, independent judgement
  • An understanding of, or empathy for, hardship, equity, or needs‑based funding
  • Confidence in relationship‑building and ambassadorial roles
  • High standards of integrity and a commitment to acting in the best interests of the Foundation
  • An alignment with the values and purpose of Scouting (a Scouting background is welcomed but not required)

Time Commitment

This is a voluntary role. Trustees:

  • Attend regular Board meetings (in person or virtual) and contribute to Board activities.
  • Meet with the Board of Scouts Aotearoa up to twice a year.
  • Support grant decisions as required.

Why Become A Trustee?

  • Make a meaningful impact on young people and communities across Aotearoa
  • Apply your skills in a purpose‑driven governance role
  • Be part of a committed Board with strong values and stewardship focus
  • Help ensure financial sustainability and equitable access to Scouting for future generations
